American Idiot: Vocal Rehearsals!

This week the entire cast got together with the musical directors for American Idiot for the first time. All (well, almost all!) 55 of us, ensemble and leads, together on the stage warming up our voices and learning the chorus pieces. This is always one of the most exciting moments of any musical rehearsal period- when the cast come together and start to produce that 'Broadway' sound that is so inherently musical theatre.
Everyone arrived at the rehearsal not knowing what to expect. With so much material to cover, and only 3 hours to achieve it, everyone was slightly tentative. However, as our rehearsal unfolded, and with the help of the wonderful musical directors, the cast soon felt focused and determined to pick up those harmonies. All I can say is how full, rich, and superb the sound is when those harmonies kick in. One thing is for certain; we will be raising the roof off of the Shelley Theatre come March!

Everyone was just about comfortable with the harmonies, when we were then instructed to perform the pieces to a backing track, FULL harmonies and FULL staging! Everyone looked nervous, but it was an amazing challenge for us to perform and try and coordinate the dance routines we have learned with the vocals we had just been taught. It is a skill that will be more refined as the weeks pass by, and with more rehearsals.

And while the photos might not depict just how nice the sound was, you will have to buy your tickets for the show now! The Saturday night showing has all but sold out, and there are 3 other nights to choose from- so head over to the Shelley Theatre website NOW to grab yours- or you can buy them from this site on the homepage!
Thank you for reading the 2nd PARTS blog, stay tuned!
