We've met up with two of the four Pink Ladies before rehearsals and chatted to them about their auditions, ideal roles and favourite dance moves.

Hi girls, so, firstly, please tell us a bit yourselves and the characters you play.

Polly: Hi, my name is Polly Cartwright and I’m studying Events Management at Bournemouth University. I’m going to be playing the role of Jan, one of the pink Ladies, in this year’s production of ‘Grease The Musical’.

Jo: Hello my name is Joanna Thomas, I’m currently in my third year at Bournemouth Uni studying English and I’m playing Frenchy.

Do either of you find that you can relate to your characters?

Polly: It’s funny you should ask that, because just the other day we were all laughing about how we all have qualities that are similar to our characters’. Me and Jan both have a love of food, and we’re both very quirky.

Jo: Well, I might not have pink hair, but we’ve both had changes in the career paths that we want to pursue.

Polly: And Jo’s very girly, just like Frenchy!

What did you do for your auditions?

Polly: For my audition I sang ‘Mooning’, which is the love song Jan sings to Roger, her boyfriend in the show, and afterwards I acted out a scene with him as well.

Jo: Well I originally auditioned for the role of Sandy, but went to my audition saying I would just really like a role in the play. I really wanted to be involved, so I was very pleased when I got a call back for Frenchy.

What do you think of our Sandy and Danny?

Polly: Aww, I love them, they are really cute.

Jo: Yeah they’re amazing!

Polly: Our Sandy really looks and sounds like Olivia Newton John and she has the blonde ditzy thing going on as well.

Jo: And Danny is absolutely hilarious, such a good actor.

Were any of you in the production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’? If so, who did you play?

Polly: I wasn’t in it, but I went to see it and that was actually what spurred me on to be in this year’s performance, just because it was so good.

What is your ideal role in any musical?

Polly: I would love to be the bad witch in ‘Wicked’, because even though she’s really evil, you get to understand the story from her point of view, and the songs they sing are amazing.

Jo: I would love to be Thelma in ‘Chicago’, because she’s a complete badass which is the complete opposite of me, so she would be really fun to play.

Since dance rehearsals have started, how are you finding them and what’s your favourite move?

Polly: I’m not a natural dancer, acting and singing are more my thing, but the dance rehearsals have been a lot of fun! Nell’s a really good choreographer, ‘You’re the one that I want’ is definitely my favourite routine. I love the part where everyone in the cast has to do a pose, I think it’s really funny.

Jo: It’s tricky! Everyone is finding them challenging, but it is good fun. I love shimmying, which there is loads of.

Are any of you performing in the upcoming Christmas showcase?

Jo: I am and it’s on my 21st birthday so I can’t wait, it should be really special. I’m actually going to sing ‘White Christmas’ with our Danny, so hopefully it will go OK and I won’t be too drunk.
