At the last rehearsals we had an interview with the charming Henry Uings, our very own Danny Zuko...
Tell us about yourself…
I’m Henry Uings, I’m 19 and I’m studying Acting at AUB – I’m in my first year.
What role are you playing? Tell us a bit about your character…
I’m playing Danny Zuko. He is the leader of the Burger Palace boys and kind of falls in love with Sandy. He is kind of the lead character which is pretty cool.
What did you do for your audition?
I actually auditioned for Doody… which is really odd. I didn’t audition for Danny at all, so it was a bit of a shock when I got Danny.
How come you got the part of Danny then?
Erm… I don’t know. I auditioned for Doody and they must have just really liked me and then I got a recall for Danny and I thought ‘Oh, OK then!’
Did you have to sing? Did you sing a Grease song for your audition?
Yeah we had to sing. I sung ‘Those Magic Changes’ (Doody’s song)
What is your favourite song from the whole musical?
‘Those Magic Changes’, it’s probably why I went for Doody in the first place, it’s my favourite song… But, Danny Zuko is still cool.
What is your favourite musical?
I would probably have to say, at the moment, Matilda.
Is there any particular reason why ‘Matilda’?
I just really like Tim Minchin’s lyrics, they’re really cool and funny.
Do you have a dream role?
Yeah I do have a dream role. Probably Fiyero in Wicked would be my favourite role to perform.
Have you got any hidden talents?
I am yet to discover a hidden talent!
Do you think that you relate to your character?
In ways yes, in ways no. I can relate to my character a lot, he’s kind of the cool guy and I’m not really the cool guy… so it’s kind of hard.
Do you think it will be challenging to play the role?
I have done Grease a few times before so I know the role inside-out… no I don’t think it will be a challenge to play it, it’ll be fun.
